PM2.5 and PM10 levels in two fitness centers along Pedro Gil Street, Manila
Exercising can be considered harmful when done in polluted environments. Thus, mass concentration of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) found in two fitness centers along Pedro Gil were quantified through gravimetric methods. Personal cascade impactor with air pump was employed to collect particulates inside the fitness centers. Maximum PM concentration were obtained at the naturally ventilated facility (118.750μg/m3 for PM10 and 53.125μg/m3 for PM2.5) while minimum values were obtained at the mechanically ventilated facility (44.792μg/m3 for PM10 and 15.625μg/m3 for PM2.5). Meteorological parameters such as temperature and relative humidity, and activity inside the fitness centers, among other factors, were associated with the difference in PM levels between the two sites.
