Point spread function robustness in galvanometer beam scanning
Abstract
We describe the point spread function (PSF) of an optical system with a galvanometer scanner mounted with a planar mirror. For each mirror rotation, minimal translation along the x and z axes were observed. Meanwhile, rapid increase in spread were also found along these axes. Using the Linfoot's criteria of merit, we characterize the aberration of each point spread function as the mirror is tilted. We find that from this characterization, the limits of the galvanometer swing can be determined. For example, given that the chosen tolerance for a photopolymerization is 25% similarity of the transverse profile, the swinging angle limit must be ±20°. With the same tolerance for the axial profile, the limit must be ±10°.
