Electrically-charged black holes in Horndeski theory

Abstract

The direct detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO and Virgo collaborations marked the dawn of the era of gravitational wave astronomy. The excitement that this brought to the field added more pressure to the gravity community to fuel the search for hairy black holes in alternative theories of gravity. Hairy black holes are expected to leave unique traces in the gravitational waves emitted whenever they participate in astrophysical processes and, thus, are the most promising theoretical laboratories when it comes to distinguishing between general relativity and alternative theories. In this paper, we present two new electrically-charged hairy black holes in Horndeski theory. The question of the thermodynamics, stability, and gravitational radiation from these black holes are left for future work.
