Abstract

Fractal analysis was used to explore the complexity of images gathered from particulate matter (PM) samples on glass fiber filters. A cascade impactor equipped with a pump were used in gathering PM samples in Quirino Avenue corner Pedro Gil Street, Ermita, Manila. Box-counting method was used for fractal analysis. Results indicate that variation in meteorological conditions is linked with variation of fractal dimension (FD). Larger volume of traffic was also seen to be linked with higher fractal dimensions. PM from traffic and variation of meteorological condition may also interact to contribute on the complexity of how particulates are adsorbed in the filters.
