Social network analysis of the co-authorship network of the University of the Philippines Diliman from 1996 to 2016
Abstract
Studying the co-authorship network of a scientific community have been useful in characterizing the properties and dynamics of the community. In this study, the co-authorship network of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) from 1996 to 2016 was analyzed using statistical measures and social network analysis. Results show that like other co-authorship networks, there have been an increase in collaboration between authors in UPD. There is also significant (p ≤ 0.001) positive correlation between the centrality scores of the authors and the number of papers they published with betweenness centrality having a stronger correlation than degree and closeness centrality. Visualization of the co-authorship network is presented with the communities detected revealing a large number of communities which is a characteristic of a multidisciplinary institution.
