Effect of well width on the wavefunction spillover in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells
Abstract
Wavefunction spillover in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well (MQW) was investigated by varying its well width. A numerical simulation of the solution to the Schrödinger equation for a finite potential well under the effective mass approximation showed that the wavefunctions are significantly spilled out for narrow quantum wells (≤50Å). Photoluminescence (PL) and photoreflectance (PR) measurements were then performed on 50Å and 90Å quantum wells to investigate experimental manifestation of wavefunction spillover. It was found that wavefunction spillover manifests in the PR line shape.
