Elemental analysis of chicken eggs by SEM-EDX spectroscopy
Abstract
In this study, microstructure and elemental analysis of chicken eggs was performed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy. SEM-EDX spectroscopic technique was able to detect the elemental composition of the samples. Peaks of the essential elements such as nitrogen, phosphorous, sodium, and potassium were observed in the spectrums generated by the system. Carbon and oxygen exhibits the highest weight percentage among all the elements detected. The technique was found adequate for qualitative and quantitative measurements of the elements present in the sample; without undergoing sample preparation such as chemical digestion needed in other techniques.
