Abstract

Indium addition to the BSCCO system has been found to inhibit the growth of the Bi2223 phase. Resistance versus temperature and X-ray diffraction measurements indicate no substitution of indium into the crystal structure of Bi2223 but is substituted into the Sr-site of Bi2212. Volume fraction and bulk morphologies exhibit an inhibition of the inclusion of Ca/Cu units into Bi2212. X-ray Diffraction of resintered samples show a decrease in the Bi2223 phase regardless of the presence of indium.
