Suspension stabilization for improved particle electrophoresis

Abstract

The present study showed that MgB2 particles suspended in acetone can be stabilized with minute addition of I2. The increase in zeta potential is attributed to the increased surface charge from the reaction of I2 with acetone. At sufficiently high I2 concentration, the hydrodynamic size, z-ave is shown to increase indicating flocculation leading to fast particle sedimentation. The increased surface charge with the addition of I2 make the particles more "responsive" to electric field and improved electrophoresis is achieved compared to particles in the suspension without I2.
