Abstract

This paper calculated the reflectivity of a gradient-index (GRIN) medium and observed its behavior with varying medium thickness. The medium was treated as a series of thin homogeneous dielectric films of equal widths, where each film was described by a matrix as a function of its thickness. The characteristic matrix of the GRIN medium was derived using the transfer matrix method, and an expression of reflectivity was obtained from the characteristic matrix of GRIN. The computation for the reflectivity was divided for p-polarized and s-polarized light. The reflectivity was found to decrease with increasing thickness of medium, and variations in pseudo-Brewster's angles were observed.
