Abstract

Eigenface method is used to differentiate between the different ethnicities in the Philippines. Obtained results suggest that distinct facial features possibly do exist for certain ethnicities making them distinguishable from other ethnicities. Results for female participants show separation between participants originating from region 2 –which is mainly inhabited with Ilocanos, from the participants who came from regions 5 (populated mostly of Bicolanos) and regions 3, 4-A and NCR (regions inhabited mostly of Tagalogs). Results for male participants show clustering of participants from regions 3, 4-A, 5 and NCR.
