Analysis of text messages in Filipino
Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of text message language in Filipino. The identified modes which are used in text messaging—rebus style, consonant skeleton style, and phonetic style—were analyzed by means of comparison of the vowel ratio and bigram frequencies of the text messages and standard written productions. Analysis of the changes in the Shannon entropy revealed that the information content of the text is not considerably changed by the process of texting.
