Abstract

Video processing is employed to measure kinematic and dynamic variables in two sets of athletes. The first set was the response times of fencers as they react to stimulus. Start and end of action was established through frame subtraction. The second set was the power output of an athlete through the measurement of jump height by proper camera calibration. Replacing goniometers and manual height comparison methods with video analysis eliminates attachments or sensors on the athletes’ body, which can influence their performance.
