Instrument control of SPEX 1404 double monochromator using LabViewTM graphical user interface

Abstract

We describe an instrument control system for double monochromator SPEX 1404. The system was designed using the graphical programming language LabViewTM. The system allows the user to specify various parameters for the scans as well as customize the appearance of the graphs. Scans of different spectra of continuous light sources were performed and were seen to be accurate and precise, confirming the success of the instrumentation. Data obtained using SPEX 1404 were seen to be more accurate and precise than data obtained using a commercially available spectrometer.
