Antimicrobial properties of titanium copper nitride produced by a magnetized sheet plasma source
Abstract
Copper-containing titanium nitride films were produced, using the Sheet Plasma Negative Ion Source (SPNIS) facility, on stainless steel and copper substrates to enhance the mechanical properties and to obtain antibacterial surface properties through copper doping. The effects of varying N2/Ar ratio and the substrate composition on the antimicrobial activities were investigated. The titanium copper nitride (TiCuN) film is effective in killing the bacteria Escherichia coli.
