Abstract

The wetting dynamics model of hydrogen ion treated polyterafluoroethylene (PTFE) materials was determined. PTFE materials are processed using low energy hydrogen ion shower (LEHIS) produced by a Gas Discharge Ion Source (GDIS). A contact angle test is used to characterize the effect of treatment. There is a high correlation between the contact angle measurements and the wetting dynamics model used as determined by R squared value of 90% and above. Results also show that treatment using lower Id improved material hydrophobicity while higher Id resulted in enhanced hydrophilicity.
