Abstract

A myth is a story that is usually of unknown origin and at least partially traditional. It related historical events and serves to explain some practice, belief, institution or natural phenomenon. Since Physics is about everyday phenomenon, it is only natural that people form many physics-related myths that are passed on from generation to generation. Students and teachers are then exposed to these myths and may even bring them to the classroom and thus, mix up what is real and what is not real. It may then be necessary to clarify such beliefs and disprove those "myths" that are not true.
In this workshop, participants will use their skills and expertise to test the validity of various rumors, popular beliefs, and urban legends. Only myths that can be verified using the scientific method will be chosen.
