Electrifying learning experiences
Abstract
Exciting hands-on activities never fail to spice up students' classroom experiences in physics. Student-centered and problem-based activities involving electricity and magnetism tend to enhance the interest, wonderment, and curiosity of the students in this subject matter. Thus, these experiences may serve as the springboard for a more effective teaching and learning of the underlying concepts and laws that govern these amazing electromagnetic phenomena.
In classroom demonstrations using a limited number of physics equipment or laboratory apparatuses, only a few students in the class can participate. A good teaching strategy is to put up several stations around the room that have different set-ups (apparatuses). To encourage ALL the students in the class to participate actively, the entire class can be divided into groups. Each group will be assigned to a particular Hands-on Station for a limited amount of time. In each station, the group will be guided by a Challenge Card containing the activity to be accomplished and the questions to be answered.
