Network analysis of SMS messages based on Filipino conversations
Abstract
This paper aims to make a network analysis of the text message syntactic networks. It also seeks to understand the manner of deletion of words in text messages. The syntactic networks constructed from the collected data were found to exhibit scale-free characteristic. The text messages networks were also found to lack the size-3 forward motif, which are found in conventional written messages syntactic networks, implying the depletion of the 3-word phrases in text messages. Furthermore, it was found that the ratio of letter deletion in text messages is more consistent for different lengths of messages compared to word deletion ratio.
