Abstract

A simple fabrication technique was used in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes by vaporization of a solution of xylene and ferrocene and thermal deposition in a non-evacuated quartz tube furnace at 850°C. Examination under the scanning electron microscope revealed production of clusters of CNTs of approximately 60-70 nm diameter on the surface of the SiO2 substrate and on the SiO2-Si interface. The successful fabrication of CNTs using this technique gives an economically viable alternative method with a less complex process set-up.
