Abstract

MgB2 films were prepared by paint brushing MgB2 powders with different binders (glycerine, essence oil and huile oil) on porous brick ceramic and alumina sintered at 800°C for 2 hours. Resulting MgB2 thickness observed at average of 130 μm for porous ceramic substrate and average of 50 μm for alumina substrate. Porous brick ceramic was observed to absorb binders leaving excellent MgB2 settling on ceramic substrate thus having good MgB2 fusion. Using very viscous and non volatile glycerine has resulted to cracks and delamination of MgB2 on alumina due to popcorn effect at high temperature. On the other hand, essence oil and huile oil having the average volatility and viscosity is observed to have good fusion of MgB2 after sintering among the three binders.
