PC-based tracking system for a 6-inch automated altazimuth telescope mount
Abstract
A PC-based tracking system was designed to go-to and track any celestial object found in the database consisting of stars, planets, sun, and moon. It was interfaced with an automated altazimuth telescope mount and operated through a personal computer. It was only used as a control system for observing a celestial object. It used an algorithm based on the principles of positional astronomy. The average goto error of the system was about 11.3 arc minutes while the tracking error varied with respect to the celestial object being tracked but is sufficient to go-to and track a celestial object by using its control system.
