Abstract

We obtain the tilt angle of rotated checkered fabrics and coral images using local spectral distortion which relates the amount of transformation of a patch by exploiting the orientation of its maximum peaks in the Fourier plane. Fabrics show regularity of textures such that their Fourier peaks are sharp. Coral images, on the other hand, exhibit semi-regular and circularly symmetric patterns of texture which results in broad peaks and ambiguous rotations. Results show a 10.57% error on the recovered tilt angles for fabric samples and 14.36% for coral images samples. Application of this 3D reconstruction extends to classification of corals into its specific family.
