Spectroscopic analysis of 1,4-dihydroxynaphthalene in the 0.5- to 6-THz region using GaP THz wave generator
Abstract
We report the room temperature terahertz (THz) spectroscopy measurement of 1,4dihydroxynaphthalene (1,4-naphthol) from 0.5- to 6-THz region using a GaP THz wave generator. Several absorption peaks were observed and ascribed to be the fundamental vibrational modes of the isomer which was also validated by the semi-empirical calculation results. The absorption peak at 2.19 THz is attributed to its breathing-like motion while the absorption peak at 5.69 THz is due to its butterfly-like motion about the shorter axis. Twisting, stretching and waggling of the attached OH bonds were also observed.
