Synthesis of PAni-EB ultrafine fibers by electrospinning
Abstract
The objective of this study is to synthesize ultrafine PAni-EB fibers by electrospinning using a 20 kV high voltage power supply. This was conducted by varying the PAni powder preparation and electrospinning parameters. The chemical, thermal and morphological properties of the fibers were characterized using FTIR, DSC, optical microscopy and SEM. Results showed that the morphology of the fibers is a function of PAni-EB doping/dedoping techniques and needle feed-to-collector distances. Higher benzenoid content (indicating higher electrical conductivity) was obtained by dedoping 5% NH4OH to produce the PAni-EB powder for electrospinning. However, PAni-EB powder doped with HClO4 and dedoped with 3% NH4OH at 18 cm needle tip-to-collector distance was favorable to allow PAni-EB polymerization to take place and produce web-like ultrafine structures composed of micron and nano-sized fibers.
