Abstract

We report the effects of interstitial matrix – starch – on the angle of repose of rice heap. Our experiments revealed that the angle of repose of the rice heap increased up to 900 when the mass ratio of the amount of matrix present on the rice was 0.23 - 0.524. It was also found out that beyond this mass ratio equal to 0.524, the angle of repose decreased approaching the angle of repose of pure starch and the binary mixture flowed coherently. Three flow regimes from the previous experiment on liquidinduced transitions of granular material were reidentified then as the matrix content of the binary mixture was increased: (a) granular regime and (b) correlated regime (c) plastic regime.
