Microcontroller-based data transmission through SMS technology of cellular phones using AT commands
Abstract
A Global System for Mobile communication (GSM)-based cellular phone and Short Message Service (SMS) messaging technology through ATtention commands, a Hayes standard for modems, was used as the method to access the basic functions of the Nokia 6210 cellular phone.
Through this method, a remote microcontroller-based instrument connected to a cellular phone was tested and verified to send SMS messages to another cellular phone. The Atmel AT90S2313 microcontroller was used to count pulses from the tip-bucket instrument and send the count to a remote cellular phone using SMS messaging. Using the HyperTerminal program and HDD free serial port monitor running on the PC, the data transmission activities of the remote and local system were visualized and verified.
The study showed that old cellular phones with GSM capabilities can be used to transmit data from an interrupt-based instrument to a remote cellular phone using ATtention commands.
