Abstract

We report on the detection of a rectified terahertz signal with the use of an asymmetric photoconductive antenna which has a Schottky contact on one side and an Ohmic contact on the other side of the photoconductive gap. The rectification effect is attributed to the Schottky barrier at the interface of the metal contact and the semiconductor substrate. The Schottky photoconductive antenna is useful for terahertz imaging and sensing applications because it enables us to detect the terahertz radiation intensity without scanning the time-delay at the cost of the spectral information.
