Abstract

Preliminary measurements of the atmospheric turbidity parameters, wavelength exponent (α) and Ångström turbidity coefficient (β), over Manila (14°33.967'N, 120°59.518'E) were determined using a commercial sunphotometer from 1 March 2004 to 27 April 2004. Daily mean values of α are found to be between 0.5 and 1.7, which peaked at around 1.4, while β varied from 0.08 to 0.35, which indicate relatively polluted skies (β > 0.1). Gradual increase in size of aerosols was evident during this period due to the decreased of α, while the behavior of β indicate steadiness on the amount of aerosols generated every afternoon.
