Abstract

Leaf spectral properties can be measured to describe its biochemical contents such as pigments. Each pigment has a property to be reflected at a certain wavelength. A non destructive technique was done by using the reflectance of mango leaves to estimate the relative amounts of pigments present. In this experiment the reflectance of the mango leaves was determined using a modified reflectance spectrometer in the range of 400-700 nm. Chlorophyll and carotenoid can be estimated near 700 and 540-560 nm respectively. Paper chromatography was also conducted to confirm the pigments present in the leaves. Results show that the leaf reflectance can provide information about the relative amounts of pigments present.
