Abstract

A culture of research can start as early as high school. At the Philippine Science High School Western Visayas Campus, Science Research is designed for students to learn the principles underlying the research process. Through formal classroom instructions, consultations, workshops, and other related activities, third year and fourth year high school students are guided to conduct researches in the different areas of science, math and technology.
To strengthen our research program, we establish linkages with academic and research institutions all over the country. These institutions open their library and laboratory facilities to our students, as well as provide them with technical assistance. Students share their research findings to the community through the science congress and science fairs we hold in school, and through their participation in science fairs at the regional, national and international levels.
Through our Science Research curriculum, we hope to develop the research skills, teamwork, and oral and communication skills among our students. We also want them to develop attitudes needed for life-long learning such as diligence, resourcefulness, intellectual honesty, personal integrity, and teachability.
