Abstract

A new technique called Streaming Neutral Gas Injection (SNGI) was introduced as another alternative for increasing negative hydrogen ion production. The surplus in H production was attributed to the enhancement of the local neutral density within the region of the extractor electrode. In this regard, twodimensional Direct Simulation Monte Carlo technique was used to simulate the SNGI nozzles to investigate the local neutral density distribution within the region of the SNGI to verify this claim. Simulation results showed that an increase of within 1–2 orders of magnitude was achieved by the SNGI. A simple glow discharge experiment using the SNGI was performed to validate the simulation results.
