Abstract

The relationship among the different samples of quartz, the impurities present in them, and their respective reflectance values were realized. The reflectance values of the four samples of quartz, namely, Rock crystal, Rose quartz, and two samples of Smoky quartz coming from different locations were individually determined by the use of a modified surface photovoltage spectrometer set-up as the reflectance spectrometer. The values of the reflectance were plotted against the wavelength, ranging from 400 nm to 700 nm. The graph showed three different graph behaviors for the rose quartz, rock crystal and the smoky quartz. It showed almost identical line trend for the two samples of smoky quartz. This showed that different varieties of quartz have different reflectance spectra, and that different samples of the same variety of quartz have similar reflectance spectra.
