Abstract

The face recognition (FR) problem is to determine from a given frontal face photograph the nearest matching person in the database of faces. In this article, we describe the mathematical basis and a software framework for performing face recognition using the comprehensive and open-source data and statistical analysis R and Stuttgart Neural Networks Simulator (SNNS) software technologies. The approach currently implemented is the data reductive and compressive Principal Components Analysis (PCA) to search for the optimal eigenfaces basis that captures the information for the associated face database.
