Real Life...Real Physics: Experiments not usually seen in Introductory Physics Laboratory
Abstract
We introduce some interactive demonstration experiments, which are rarely performed in a structured introductory physics laboratory. Some real life situations are also analyzed using only the basic force and motion concepts. Experiments make use of accelerometers, force sensors, motion sensors and Universal Laboratory Interface made by VernierTM. Plots are observed from the PC monitor. The method of implementation is patterned from the active learning procedure, which is comprised of the intuitive prediction, experimentation and drawing of conclusion. Correction of common misconceptions, particularly on force and motion, is also addressed. Group discussions and demonstrations are important elements in the activities. Knowledge on Newtonian mechanics is the minimum requirement for the participants.
