The biological effects of ionizing radiation and radiation protection
Abstract
This workshop will focus on the biological effects of radiation and how do we protect oursclves from radiation. Modular approach will be utilized in conducting this workshop. The lecture will begin with a brief discussion about human biology, radiophysics and radiochemistry, then the study conducted by Bergonne and Tribondeau on the effects of radiation on cells, tissues and organs, followed by the discussions on direct and indirect effects of radiation, and high-dose radiation effects on human body. Lastly, methods of reducing radiation exposure will also be discussed.
