A microcontroller-based automatic data logger for wind speed, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure
Abstract
A microcontroller-based automatic data logger system was designed and used for measuring wind speed, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure. The system was designed to automatically collect data from the sensors and store them in non-volatile memories for retrieval using serial interface to a personal computer.
The study has four main parts namely hardware design, software design, calibration, and data collection and storage.
The whole system was subjected to a week of data gathering set at an hourly logging interval. Readings of wind speed and wind direction from an existing automatic data logger system were compared with results and showed a linear relationship with correlation coefficient greater than 0.9. The results showed that the system is comparable to other standard commercial data logger systems. The designed system provides a low cost alternative to existing expensive systems on the market today
