Superconductivity: Theoretical progress
Abstract
Superconductivity is one of the most exciting frontiers of physics today. The new superconductors are made of complicated materials and are found to exhibit superconductivity at a relatively high temperature. BCS theory can explain many properties of low temperature superconductors, but is not applicable to high temperature superconductivity.
At sufficiently low temperatures, many metals undergo a phase transition from normal state to superconducting state. In the next sections, we mention some of the mechanisms of high temperature superconductivity.
