Setup and calibration of the Taylor tube for the measurement of the sound absorption coefficients of materials
Abstract
In this paper, we report an improvement in the measurement of the absorption coefficient of materials using the Taylor tube setup. This is realized by utilizing the sound card of common desktop computers to generate, detect and analyze the sound in the tube and this is further facilitated by a program made in LabVIEW®. The system was able to calibrate and measure the absorption profile of the Taylor tube and a commercial acoustic tile.
