Abstract

A GSM cell phone was used as a transceiver for remote access and control of instruments. Commands were sent from a cell phone of a remote user to the transceiver by way of SMS or text messaging. A microcontroller was used to acquire the SMS message from the transceiver, execute the commands, control and gather data from an instrument like temperature sensor, and sends the data to the remote user by SMS messaging. The study showed that remote data gathering and instrument control could be implemented using cell phones and SMS messaging.
