Abstract

Creating a purely deterministic cellular automata (DCA) system as an approximate model for dynamic and interacting physical systems makes analysis simple since fewer parameters are involved. However, the challege lies in the proper choice of cellular automata rules to be used in updating the cellular states. In this paper, a DCA model is shown to model one-dimensional growth via careful choice of the DCA rules used. Interaction of this population with a finite (but growing) food supply is also investigated employing a proposed protocol for elementary DCA interaction. This method could help us model numerous dynamic systems that can be easily mimicked by interacting DCA.
