Abstract

In this workshop the following aspects of cooperative group problem solving (CGPS) will be tackled:

Initial state of the learner and the desired final state
Cognitive apprenticeship model
Implementing the cognitive apprenticeship model for large classes
A logical problem solving strategy
Cooperative groups versus traditional groups
Group roles: manager, checker/recorder, skeptic, energizer/summarizer
Context rich problems versus traditional problems
Group functioning evaluation
Practical issues in CGPS: Optimal group size; How often should groups be changed?; Individual accountability
