Cooperative group problem solving
Abstract
In this workshop the following aspects of cooperative group problem solving (CGPS) will be tackled:
- Initial state of the learner and the desired final state
- Cognitive apprenticeship model
- Implementing the cognitive apprenticeship model for large classes
- A logical problem solving strategy
- Cooperative groups versus traditional groups
- Group roles: manager, checker/recorder, skeptic, energizer/summarizer
- Context rich problems versus traditional problems
- Group functioning evaluation
- Practical issues in CGPS: Optimal group size; How often should groups be changed?; Individual accountability
