Abstract

In this workshop the following aspects of cooperative group problem solving (CGPS) will be tackled:

  • Initial state of the learner and the desired final state
  • Cognitive apprenticeship model
  • Implementing the cognitive apprenticeship model for large classes
  • A logical problem solving strategy
  • Cooperative groups versus traditional groups
  • Group roles: manager, checker/recorder, skeptic, energizer/summarizer
  • Context rich problems versus traditional problems
  • Group functioning evaluation
  • Practical issues in CGPS: Optimal group size; How often should groups be changed?; Individual accountability
