Relaxation times of bistable cholesteric liquid crystal (BCLC) on different surface alignments
Abstract
In this study, the problem of finding an appropriate alignment that will give a fast relaxation time will be addressed. The anchoring strength of the surface alignments was determined as observed from the initial planar textures. The relaxation behaviour was studied under the polarizing microscope and the corresponding relaxation times were measured from the reflectances of the BCLC cells. BCLC cell with homeotropic alignment has displayed the fastest relaxation time to the planar state.
