Abstract

A fuzzy image thresholding technique was employed to binarize metaphase spread images of chromosomes. Calculating a threshold value that minimizes the index of fuzziness was applied to samples of gray scale metaphase spread images. The same sample images were thresholded using Otsu's algorithm as a basis of comparison with the results produced by the study. By using the reliability test to compare the two algorithms, fuzzy thresholding produced more optimal binary images.
