Abstract

Since the signing into law of the Clean Air Act on June 22, 1999, the country has come to realize that the problems of implementation are not so much a question of having the right technology and/or applied science to make the air clean but the attitude of the populace. This talk will look at these issues from the perspective of how science and society need to dialogue with each other. Thus the implementation of the Clean Air Act is but symptomatic of the whole issue of how science can or cannot benefit society.
