Relation between university science and industry

Abstract

This talk will discuss aspects of the relation between university science and industry. I will talk about ideal relationships and those that can be achieved in practice. The talk will be illustrated with examples from my own relationship with Fairchild Semiconductor, Cebu and my attempt to set up a small university-based company, Micronica. Other examples will be drawn from the experience of the Rose-Hulman Institute in dealing directly with companies and indirectly through an industrial incubator, Rose-Hulman Ventures.
