Development of a new rainfall climatology for the Philippines
Abstract
A method for developing a high resolution, accurate gridded, rainfall data for the Philippines is described. The method is based on combining three types of climatological rainfall information. The first type consists of gridded data which are obtained by using rainfall simulations with a fluid dynamical model of the atmosphere. The second type is also gridded rainfall data which are estimated from radiation observations made by satellites. The third data consists of observations from rain gauge observations. A mathematical method is formulated for combining the three types of information. The result is a gridded data set of climatological rainfall. An initial application of the method is made in order to produce a rainfall atlas for the month of June.
