Surface alignment effects on the reflectance and contrast ratio of bistable cholesteric liquid crystal
Abstract
This paper investigates the effects of surface alignment in the reflectances and contrast ratio of bistable cholesteric liquid crystal (BCLC) cells. Reflectances of BCLC cells were measured and the corresponding textures were studied after voltage removal. From the reflectance plots, contrast ratio was determined. Cell with homogeneous alignment has the highest reflectance of 12.5%. Cell with homoetropic alignment gives the highest contrast ratio of 1.58.
