Measurement of coefficient of kinetic friction using color tracking
Abstract
Color tracking by histogram backprojection was used as an alternative method of measuring the time it took a block to travel along a wooden surface for a specified distance. The obtained data was used to calculate the coefficient of kinetic friction of the surface. Comparisons between the results for color tracking and the results obtained using conventional methods (e.g. using a stopwatch) show very similar results. Color tracking concluded to be a promising and easier way of performing the experiment since the measurement and calculation can be directly performed by a computer.
