Abstract

We have investigated the effect of optical feedback in a diode laser. We found that even for a small amount of feedback, a change in the output power can be detected. It is also observed that the threshold current was slightly reduced due to feedback as expected from the theoretical model. Looking at the frequency domain, using a Fabry-Perot etalon, the effects of feedback are more pronounced. In contrast to other groups who observed a decrease in stability of the laser with optical feedback, we were able to increase the stability of the system, resulting in a linewidth narrowing of 25%.
